WATERFRONT EXHIBITION – TIME ON OUR HANDS – NOW ON

FAVORITES The V&A Waterfront is hosting an art exhibition in celebration of Freedom Day on the 20th anniversary of the release of Nelson Mandela. RIACT is proud to be a sponsor of this event. Several current and past students from Michaelis have created artworks which speak of Robben Island and the symbolic role it played in our past. Some of the pieces will incorporate the Robben Island fencing.

The exhibition will be housed in the old Manenberg Jazz Cafe in the Clocktower section of the Waterfront. In addition, in the open square directly in front of the Robben Island Museum, there will be an installation by Chris Swift, recent winner of the Spier Contemporary competition and 2009 Michealis prize winner. This installation will be made entirely from the Robben Island fencing.
